March 20, 2021

It’s that time of the month where I want you to stop for a moment and think about how you are practicing.

In January we talked about always having a goal when you practice, and in February we talked about practicing at the speed where you can play with no mistakes. How have you been doing?

March’s Practice Tip is one of that students hear often around the studio. Our hand position while we are playing is super important! If our hands are too flat, it is difficult to play and will result in major problems that harder the music gets. But the same is true if our hands are too ridged and curved!

As you practice this week, stop every so often and think about whether or not you’re playing with cupcake hands. If you’re having trouble remembering this, start by focusing on cupcake hands during your warmups. If you can master it there, you will naturally begin playing this way all of the time 😊

Parents – this is an quick and fun reminder that can be used to easily and painlessly redirect if your child is struggling with flat fingers.

I also want to take a moment and draw your attention to Skyline’s new Skyline Kids display at the store. You will find several of the books I am promoting for further music learning along with many others! The display will be changing overtime, so make sure to keep an eye on it!

I’m looking forward to seeing you all this week 🙂

Happy Practicing!
