Hello Students and Parents,

Thanks for checking in on this week’s newsletter! A few things of note heading into this week …

~ Music Against Hunger info went out in last week’s newsletter …. but you can see the performer sheet by clicking on the link for the pdf below. The official schedule is out now behind the counter, so you can sign up for whatever time will work by coming into the store or giving a quick call 🙂 This is a fantastic opportunity to use our music to help others this holiday season!

~ Christmas Break this year will begin December 22nd. Lessons will resume on Monday, January 9th. Please mark your calendars now! (The store will still be open during this time for last minute Christmas gifts, instrument repairs, and any other musical needs you may have.)

~ Our Book of the Month is King of Ragtime: The Story of Scott Joplin. With beautiful artwork and robust details describing Joplin’s life, this colorful picture book will give you a new appreciation for the man they call the king of ragtime. Born in Texas a few short years after the freeing of slaves on Juneteenth, Joplin grew up in a community that leaned on music to get them through the hard times and used it to celebrate it in the good times. He was known as “the quiet kid who made a piano laugh out loud”, and used his talent on the keys to catapult him into fame by creating “a new music, an American music like the country itself- a patchwork of sounds and colors.” This book is available in the Skyline Kids section at the store, and the perfect gift for under the tree 🙂

Happy Reading!

~McKenzie
